Eric Matthew Brown credits the municipal fraud drama and will direct Burt and Bertie.
Dirty Films – Cate Blanchett, Andrew Upton and Coco Francini – and New Republic Pictures are partnering on the production banner Municipal Fraud Drama Queen Bitch and the High Horse.
Burt and Bertie, best known for helming Amazon’s upcoming comedy troupe Zero, will direct the film’s screenplay from Eric Matthew Brown.
Inspired by the biggest municipal fraud in American history, Queen Bitch and High Horse turn a city’s lovelies into corrupt public servants who embezzle millions to fund a show horse empire.
Producer credits are shared by Blanchett, Frankney, and Upton of Dirty Films and Brian Oliver and Bradley Fisher of the New Republic.
Queen Bitch and the High Horse is the first film to be acquired under Dirty Films’ First Look deal with the New Republic, run by producers Brian Oliver and Bradley Fisher, and behind Elton John’s biopic Rockman and Sam Mendes.
Dirty Films’ most recent credit is the Australian limited series Stateless, taken by FX and Netflix on the Hulu series Mrs. America.

Burt and Bertie are set to direct half of the episodes for the upcoming Marvel / Disney + series Hawkeye, starring Jeremy Renner and Hailey Steinfeld. Brown is currently working on how easy it is as a feature for Ed Berger to adapt his sci-fi thriller short story and Ben Shields is preparing for Kaitlyn’s production.
Varvey negotiated the deal on behalf of Burt and Bertie and Brown. Dirty Films has been represented by CAA. Burt and Bertie are retaken by the Verve and Nord Group. Brown is retaken by Verve and Lighthouse Entertainment.
