DJ Khaled to Host MTV Africa Music Awards Kampala


“I can’t wait to celebrate the incredible music coming out of Africa that has inspired me for my entire career,” the music star says.
DJ Khalid will serve as the international host of the Virtual MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) Kampala, which will air in 180 countries on 20 February.

Viacom Network said on Friday that the Grammy Award-winning DJ and record executive “will host a virtual award ceremony from his glamorous home in Miami, Florida.”

“MTV has always been a great partner so I jumped at the opportunity to host this year’s MAMAS,” DJ Khalid said. “I can’t wait to celebrate the incredible music coming out of Africa, which has inspired me for my entire career.”


MTV Music is celebrating the celebrations, which last took place in 2016 in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism of Uganda, which is why Kampala, the capital of the country is also included in the event. The show bounced back amid an expansion of original content at Viacom CBS’s African network.

“Africa is home to some of the world’s most dynamic talents, and we are excited to see these artists broadcast for the first time in MTV history as MAMAs broadcast in 180 countries,” Bruce Gilmour, music, music talent, Programming The Chairm an said the program for Viacombs Media Networks. “With Grammy Award-winning powerhouse DJ Khalid, we are sure it will be an incredible, global event to watch.”


Monde Twala, senior VP and general manager of Viacombs Network Africa said, “With his global success feat and over 22 million followers on social media, he will inspire youth across the continent and also a large international audience for the virtual event Will attract. ” Can’t wait to showcase the latest African music stars and culture. ”

DJ Khalid has made many hit toppers such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, Drake, Chris Brown, Ludacris, T.I., French Montana, Future, Big Sean, Rick Ross, John Legend, Nicki Minaj, and Llyn.

The MAMA Kampala event will celebrate African talent across 20 award categories, including best male, best female, best song, and best collaboration. New honors this year include ones for the Alone Together Best Lockdown Performance, Best Fan Base, and Personality of the Year, which will “recognize outstanding personalities that have been at the forefront of culture on the continent during the year and include non-music stars” from the worlds of sports, celebrity, and industry.
