Amazon Studios Taps Disney Veteran to Lead Franchise Marketing

Greg Coleman will oversee fantasy and sci-fi brands, including an upcoming series based on ‘The Lord of the Rings’. Amazon Studios has hired a new executive to market big franchises such as its upcoming The Lord of the Rings series.

Greg Coleman joins Dreamer as the global head of franchise marketing, where he will oversee a team dedicated to getting the word out about fantasy and sci-fi original films and TV series. He will start March 1 and report to Ukonwa Ojo, marketing head of Amazon Studios.

In a memorandum of staff announcing the hire, Ojo wrote that Coleman would “lead the team to engage a mass audience globally through effective marketing campaigns.”

Coleman most recently worked at Walt Disney Animation Studios, where he helped launch the multi-billion-dollar franchise Frozen and its sequel as worldwide marketing and franchise management.

A 16-year-old Disney veteran, he also held marketing and research roles at Walt Disney Studios. Prior to joining Disney, he worked at MGM Studios.

Amazon Studios has made large genre plays central to its original programming strategy. In 2018, Dreamer revived the Syfy series The Expanse, which has been renewed for the sixth and final season. The following year, it debuted Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne starrer Carnival Row.

Amazon has prepared a huge cast for Lord of the Rings, which will explore new stories based on JRR. Tolkien fantasy novel.
