“I am 37 years old and finally love and accept myself,” the actor wrote in a message on Instagram. Jonah Hill is speaking out about body positivity and confidence in the wake of a daily mail article that included a shirtless photo of him during a day of surfing in Malibu.
The actor took to Instagram on Friday to share his reaction and struggle with his body image, before clarifying that these types of images no longer stray him from being comfortable with himself and his body. “I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in the pool until I was in my 30s in front of my family and friends,” Hill wrote.
The actor pointed out that this is not a “not good for me” or “feels bad for me” post, but rather a “one for kids who don’t take off their shirts in the pool.” To those children, Hill wrote, “Have fun. You’re amazing and awesome and perfect. All my love.”
“Perhaps soon it would have happened if my childhood insecurities had not been eradicated through public jokes about my body by the press and the interviewers. So the idea that the media tried to play chasing me while surfing and printing like this Does and it can’t ‘t phase me no longer dope. I’m 37 years old and finally love and accept myself.
Their post included a screenshot of the article they were referencing, showing the shirtless photo prominently with a photo in the Hills. He said, “Oh and even after signing up with the Daily Mail, you can’t take that smile off my face;”).
His post received many reactions from industry colleagues, such as Jude Apto, writing, “When I take my shirt off on the beach it looks like I’m still wearing a shirt … or a sweater. Now I’m putting it on I will show. With pride! ” Johnny Knoxville reacted to the post with just two heart emojis, while Justin Timberlake wrote, “You’re a g!!! and my soul is a beast! Love you, brother!”
