Digital TV Research states, “However, Disney + will have more subscriptions than Netflix in only one country – India.” According to an analyst’s latest forecast, in 2026 the fast-growing Disney + streaming service will reach more subscribers than Netflix.
Digital TV Research shared the prediction on Monday in a new report. It is estimated that Disney + subscribers will reach 294 million in 2026, up from 286 million which it predicts will reach Netflix by then. “However, Disney + will have more subscriptions than Netflix in just one country – India: 98 million Disney + Hotstar subscribers vs. 13 million for Netflix.”
Simon Murray, the principal analyst at Digital TV Research, said, “Disney + Hotstar will move to 13 Asian countries by 2026. These countries will supply 108 million (37 percent) of global Disney + total subscribers, but only 2.62 billion of the platform (13 percent) revenue by 2026. Hotstar customers pay less than a third of their US counterpart’s monthly subscription fees. “
The research firm estimates that global revenue for Disney + will hit $ 20.76 billion in 2026, half of Netflix’s $ 39.56 billion. The management teams at Disney and Netflix have vowed to continue investing in original programming, which has helped benefit customers. Disney + has benefited from originals like The Mandalorian, while Netflix has looked strong for the likes of Bridgeton and The Crown.
The company predicts that Chinese streaming services will reach 279 million subscribers that year, with Amazon’s Prime service 184 million globally, WarnerMedia’s HBO Max 50 million owned by AT&T, and technology giant Apple TV + 11 million.
