Quinta Brunson-Led Teacher Comedy Moving Forward at ABC

‘Harrity Elementary’ will be produced by Qu Harley Quinn’s duo Justin Helper and Patrick Schumacher. ABC is going to school with Quinta Bronson.

The network on Tuesday placed a pilot order for the single-camera comedy Harrity Elementary, produced, starring, and performed by the comedian, former Buzzfeed development partner, and co-star of HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show.

The workplace comedy, which arose after a competitive bidding process at ABC in September, is about a group of teachers brought to one of the worst public schools in the country, simply because they love teaching. Teachers will trust each other to make it through the day, and find a way to counteract the school district’s wavering attitude to educate children.

Bronson will star in the comedy and will star alongside Justin Helper and Patrick Schumacher. The potential series is a co-production between Warner Bros. TV, where Harley Quinn stars Helper and Schumacher’s delicious non-Sequitur Productions banner and is Disney’s 20th television. The latter studio rode the comedy as a co-production with Pilot Pick.

Harrity reunites Elementary Brunon with Helper and Schumacher. Brunson was earlier set to star in the 2018 pilot of The CW, The End of the World in the We Know It. The project-based on Eva-Mary Palmer’s book did not proceed. The pilot also brought back Brunson in the ABC fold after guests starring on single parents.

In 2014 Brunson made the cut on YouTube with his series The Girl Who’s Never Been on a Nice Date. His credits include Facebook Watch’s Quinta vs. Everything and Netflix’s Big Mouth.

For Helper and Schumacher, the Heritage Elementary should go on in the series, it will mark the second show of the Powerless Grades and feature in the DC Universe-turned-HBO Max animated breakout Harley Quinn.

ABC’s seventh comedy Harrity Elementary in the works for the 2021-22 broadcast season. It also directly joins the series Untitled Comedy, starring Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer, as well as an update to Lee Daniels’ The Wonder Years. Stay in contention with all pilots for next season with THR’s Easy Guide. Brunson is repped by ICM Partners, Authentic Talent and Literary Management, and Dale Shaw.
